Unison to Provide Air Cooled Oil Coolers to Snecma for the LEAP-1B Engine for 737 MAX

Jan 17, 2013

Dayton, Ohio, January 17, 2013 — Unison Industries announced that it has been awarded a life-of-the-program contract by Snecma (Safran) to provide its air cooled oil coolers for the LEAP-1B* engine produced by CFM International. The LEAP-1B engine will power the next generation of Boeing’s popular 737 aircraft series, launched as the 737 MAX, expected to enter into service in 2017.

Based on the light weight conformal surface cooler technology developed by Unison, the air cooled oil coolers for the LEAP-1B optimize system weight and improve air flow through the use of its Integrated Fin Technology™ (IFT™), contributing to the engine’s greater efficiency and reduced fuel consumption. The light weight conformal surface cooler technology was introduced on the GEnx-1B engine powering Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner and was also selected for the Passport engine. Unison’s advanced heat exchanger technology is patented and patent pending.

“Being awarded this contract by Snecma for the LEAP-1B engine reflects Snecma’s confidence in the value Unison’s advanced technology brings to the next generation of the world’s best-selling engine.” said Mike Grunza, president of Unison Industries. “The LEAP-1B will be the third application for Unison’s air cooled oil coolers, which now have more than a year of reliable service on the GEnx-1B. We look forward to working with Snecma on this program.”
