Unison certifies Digital Generator Control Unit for Cessna Mustang business jetJACKSONVILLE, Fla., August 23, 2006 - Unison Industries today announced that the company has completed bench environmental and software certification of its Digital Generator Control Unit (DGCU) for the six-person Citation Mustang, Cessna's new entry-level Citation business jet. The DGCU is used to control the starter generator, which starts the aircraft engine and provides in-flight power for a variety of aircraft functions. Traditionally, GCUs have used analog technology and provided only basic control and protection functions. Unison's DGCU incorporates modern electronic technology that provides significantly increased functionality over analog models. This represents the first time the Unison technical team has certified an electronic product for turbine engine applications that incorporates embedded software, making the achievement a key milestone in the company's ongoing program to add software design and integration to its extensive electrical and mechanical engineering capabilities. "Our use of electronic technology for starter-generator control represents the next evolutionary step in providing our customers with more integrated solutions," said Mike Sanders, Unison vice president of engineering. "Unison's DGCUs provide customers with greater efficiencies, reduced cost and more flexibility - the core components of all of our efforts to provide them with the total solution for their engine needs." Unison's DGCU uses a highly-integrated microcontroller to implement its control and protective functions for improved reliability, reduced parts count and lower manufacturing costs for aircraft operators. It also features Built-in-Test (BIT) for ease of maintenance of the electrical power system. In addition, increased functionality of Unison's DGCU is expected to provide design flexibility for future applications and the ability to quickly incorporate performance enhancements as needs arise. The DGCU will be manufactured at Unison's Holtsville, NY facility and will enter service with the first Mustang production aircraft scheduled to roll out in December of 2006. Cessna expects to produce over 175 Mustangs per year with two DGCUs per aircraft.
