Unison's Norwich plant recognized for commitment to safety

NORWICH, NY, Sept. 4, 2007 - Unison Industries' manufacturing facility in Norwich, NY recently earned recognition from the federal government for its commitment to safe operations. Unison's facility has been approved by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) to receive the agency's "VPP STAR," a designation that recognizes employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health records.

"At Unison, the safety of our employees is our greatest priority," said Gary Cummings, Unison's director of Operations - Norwich. "With a company-wide goal of zero accidents, I am proud of our commitment to safety, and in particular, the achievements of our employees in Norwich."

In its evaluation of Unison's Norwich plant, OSHA representatives highlighted "management commitment" and "employee involvement" as areas of excellence for the facility. Norwich joins Unison's Dayton, Ohio, operation in earning STAR-level recognition. Dayton became a VPP Star facility in 1996.

OSHA's VPP programs promote effective worksite-based safety and health. In VPP, management, labor, and OSHA establish cooperative relationships at workplaces to implement a comprehensive safety and health management system. STAR is the highest level of VPP certification from OSHA. Of the nearly 7 million workplaces in the United States, only 1,756 are VPP STAR sites.

Unison's Norwich, NY, facility employs approximately 300 people and is responsible for manufacturing the power generation and control systems for gas turbine engines, metal encased ignition leads, sensors, pressure and limit switches, bellows, and space ignition systems.
